Students need 20 AR points to receive their trophy in first grade. I encourage every child to read the books that they bring home each night.

Don't forget to send in the December Calendar if you are able to read this month!
Students need 20 AR points to receive their trophy in first grade. I encourage every child to read the books that they bring home each night.
- Monday-Music, Tuesday-PE, Wednesday-Library, Thursday-Computer, Friday-Art
- If you need to call to change your child’s transportation for end of day, please do so BEFORE 3:00 or your child will be sent by their regular mode of transportation.
- You will be getting a note about our basket for the spring Carnival. Our Candidates for the carnival are: Mr. and Miss Heart Throb, Easton Harrison and Emma Gaines.
- I will be sending a book order home and I wrote a note on it but I wanted to add the information here. If your child had a birthday in December, January, or February they may pick a $5 book. That is my birthday gift.
- Valentine's Party: Ice Cream Sundae and pizza.
- Please practice math facts with your child. It helps with our addition fluency.
- The spelling words are under the spelling tab and they are not for a grade just to practice! We are now working on words with blends. Your child should be capitalizing the beginning of a sentence and adding punctuation. If you have time to practice these things, please do so. It is also so important that your child stretch out words noting as many sounds as possible. They should be able to spell all CVC words (ex. cat). If they have trouble with those type of words please help them make words at home. We have moved on to blends (ex. frog)
- The envelopes that I am sending home with the books and worksheets the answers need to be in sentence form. We are really working hard on this.
- We are also working on Handwriting and number writing skills. I have several students writing letters and numbers backwards. This is something we will continue to work on. Writing: we are making books and really focusing on capital letters at the beginning of a sentence and punctuation at the end. We are also working hard on making our sentences make sense.
- We have a new read aloud every week and shared reading. During our shared reading we work on many skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, Language skills, and many others. We also practice handwriting, formation of letters and spacing. If you have time practice these skills with your child. We have been working on nouns: common, proper, possessive, singular, plural. We worked on verbs and now are beginning adjectives. We will be working on making sure our sentences include a noun, verb and adjective. Our reading skill we are working on is asking and answering questions.
- Our reading program will once again be based around the Missouri Reading Initiative. We hope to be in reading groups by the second full week of school. We will also use Reading for Real and Magic of Math as core components in our classroom this year. I would be happy to discuss any of these learning avenues with you if you have any questions. Math-We are working on addition strategies. Please work out simple addition problems with your child.
- Students who are signed up for tutoring if you do not want your child to stay that day you must let me know. Tutoring is every Tuesday and Thursday unless the tutoring teacher cancels.
